Thank you for your interest in working with 3B: Brae’s Brown Bags. Above and beyond all else Brae’s Brown Bags are meant to provide hope and nourishment to their recipients. To do this we need your help.

Starting at the most basic of grassroot levels, 3B was created by Braeden Mannering, age 9 years old. He has been working with his family to create bags and reach out within the community for events at which he can deliver the bags to those in need.

Food Insecurity

Raising awareness of the food insecurity issue in the United States became a second goal while this project began evolving. Braeden has learned there are many people who are unsure of where they will get their next meal and this population embraces more than just homeless people. Being able to educate people about food insecurity is something Braeden can do injunction with Brae’s Brown Bags. Food insecurity is also the reason he has decided only health snacks should be packed. There is a correlation between obesity and food insecurity. Many of the cheaper, bulk food items donated to shelters and soup kitchens are often not the healthiest choices. Being able to provide a bag with a water bottle and three healthy snacks for a child or an adult is incredibly important to his cause.

Specialty Bags

  • Braeden realizes there a variety of reasons for homelessness. One of those include having a family member lose their job. In a state of economic struggle often times a family is unable to save in advance to be prepared for losing their job. These families are then forced into a low-income bracket they were previously unfamiliar with and so what can Brae’s Brown Bags provide this population? His answer to this is creating a specialty bag which includes toiletry items such as: travel size soap, toothpaste, toothbrush, deodorant, a comb, a pack of tissues and hand sanitizers. These bags can be given to agencies who work with impoverished populations to train them and help them get back into the work force.
  • Another subset of people who Brae’s Brown Bags can offer hope and nourishment are children. When families find themselves in hard times the children are the ones who suffer most. Many children who live in poverty or who are homeless have very little they can call their own. Brae would like to create a brown bag for them which will include a book in addition to water and healthy snacks.
  • Last but not least Brae has decided he would like to add gloves or socks to the brown bags during the winter months. This is something he feels is important to help provide hope and security to those who have found themselves in a difficult place.
