Adults get together all the time and go to conferences and meetings to talk about their ideas and brainstorm ways to improve issues.
I believe that great ideas can come from every person, no matter how old they are and that is why I developed a hunger conference track for kids.
Brae’s Brown Bags, in partnership with the Food Bank of Delaware, will hold a bi-annual hunger conference on the same day as their adult conference. This way the grownups and the kids will be able to learn from each other. I want kids to realize that even from a young age their voice matters and their ideas can change the world.
The 2017 Coming Together Hunger Conference will be held on April 6 at the Chase Center on the Riverfront in Wilmington, Delaware.
The Kids’ Track Agenda and application for schools to apply to join can be found here. The kids who attend from any age group through 12th grade will rotate between activities to make sure each group gets to participate in all that we have planned. So the agenda reflects the different activities, but please understand groups will be starting and ending at different activities throughout the day. For example: One school might start at the Food Waste activity while another school starts at the Healthy Eating demonstration. After an allotted period of time the groups will rotate.
Me and my Mom, along with many volunteers have developed an agenda where kids will learn about living a healthy lifestyle and food insecurity, but they will also be given opportunities to share their own ideas and concerns. Every student will have an opportunity to write a letter to a legislator, every student will have an opportunity to make a difference during the conference.
We hope to see you there!
